Haines Watts Chester is based in Military House in the heart of Chester and we’ve occupied the building since 2007.  The building is a Grade II listed building and has a rich history stretching back nearly 200 years!

Military House is a detached house built in 1826 and was probably designed for use of officers in association with the Chester Regiment buildings on Castle Square. It was later used as a Military hospital for the local Dale Barracks.

Gavin Chappell, local historian tells us that it’s use as a Military Hospital in Chester, predates the First World War, as it’s marked as a Military Hospital on the Chester tithe map, dated 1848. The history of the army in Chester goes back to Roman Times when the city was known as Deva. We’re proud that our building is very much a part of that military history in the city.  The building has also been owned by the Dean and Chapter of Chester Cathedral.

We recently met with local multi-award winning artist Julie Littler from The Littler Places Art who specialises in bright, colourful architectural artwork. From this meeting, we commissioned Julie to paint a picture of our office building, Military House.

We think the final artwork is amazing! Julie’s work is influenced by bright and vivid colours of the Caribbean and all her art is hand-painted and feature a rainbow as a symbol of hope and love. We think Julie has been able to capture the significance and history of the building but with a truly modern, vibrant twist.

The artwork by Julie will hang with pride in our office, but we are also going to be using a Christmas version of it on our Haines Watts Chester Christmas cards this year and on some promotional items such as drinks coasters and cushions!

We love to support local Chester businesses and can’t recommend Julie at The Littler Places Art enough! She’s done a great job with this commission and is a joy to work with.
