How did you get into Accounting?

Back in 2000, I dove into the world of accounting, opting for a different path than the traditional university route. I knew it wasn’t for me, and was searching for a job which allowed me to study at the same time as working. It all began thanks to a friend who gave me a peek into her accounting books, sparking my interest. She then introduced me to a colleague in her company who was in need of some extra help, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Since that moment, I've been working hard and climbing the ranks in accounting. Starting as a trainee, then moving up to become an accounts assistant, and now proudly holding the position of accounts senior.

What is it that keeps you with Haines Watts?

I’ve had periods in my career where I’ve either left Haines Watts to be with family or try something different. But you know what? Every single time, I've gravitated right back. And honestly, it’s because I really enjoy being here and working with this team.

Sure, our Tamworth office might not be this huge operation, but there's this solid bond of respect and loyalty among us. We all value the grind we put in, and we've got each other's backs. Outside of that the flexibility has always been great, even before Covid. The team here are modern and forward thinking and that goes a long way when you have kids to look after.

How would you describe Haines Watts as a place to be?

In the accounting industry there are quite a lot of these ‘old school’ businesses, but Haines Watts isn’t like that. Yes there is the flexibility, but what makes us truly unique as a team are the opportunities to expand and evolve your career. What ever path you want to take, you are supported and you’ll never feel pressured into being anything other than your authentic self.

What is the highlight of your day?

The best part of my day is coming into office when everyone is here, with some of us being part-time or remote, these full-house moments are like rare gems. We swap stories about what we've been up to, what's on the horizon, and if anyone's got some juicy news to share. It's these moments of real connection that make all the difference when you’re in the day to day.

Looking back, what has been the best moment in your career?

Honestly, it sounds cliche, but I’d go back to the start of my career and getting the job and opportunity in the first place. Having someone take that chance on you and watching yourself climb those ranks is a rewarding journey in itself.
