This week, we’ve asked Tim Pearce to share details about his role here at Haines Watts – meet Tim!
What is your full name and title at Haines Watts?
Tim Pearce, Managing Partner
How long have you been at Haines Watts?
I joined Haines Watts in February 2015 following the merger of Haines Watts Worcester and the accountancy business that I established in 2012 – Focus Accountancy.
What is a day in the life of your job role like?
Every day is different. That’s why I like it.
My role sees me look after and work with a portfolio of clients as well as overseeing the team and the running of the business.
What is the most exciting aspect of your job?
Helping our clients achieve their business and personal goals and overcome their challenges.
No two clients are the same. They all have their own challenges and priorities. Running a business can be lonely and sometime all clients need is a sounding board and someone to bounce ideas off.
I love working with clients hands on, acting as a sounding board and building a relationship as their trusted advisor.
What did you do before joining Haines Watts?
I qualified in 2004 and immediately joined a two partner firm of accountants based in Cheltenham – working my way to associate director.
I started Focus Accountancy in 2012 and built the practice from scratch before merging it with Haines Watts in 2015.
Is there anything exciting you’re working on at the moment?
Most people would say that accountancy and exciting don’t really go hand in hand!
Seriously though, I am currently working on a couple of ‘exciting’ clients projects.
One of these is to help a client establish a structure to reward and retain some key employees. To achieve this we are implementing a tax efficient employee share option scheme that will reward the employees on any eventual sale of the business but also has the flexibility to provide the employees with share ownership.
Our industry, like many is changing. Technology change is fast paced and because of this the services that we provide and the way that we work with some clients will change. We are currently seeing an increase in the number of clients that are asking us to provide a full outsourced accountancy service and who which to take advantage of new technology. I am currently working with our Cloud & Outsourced Accountancy Manager – Gareth Williams – to develop this side of our offering.
And finally, what do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Spending time with my wife and two children is important to me as is travelling, both in this country – I love Cornwall so spend as much time there as possible – mainly staying in my VW Camper Van, and farther afield – as a family we love Australia and have another trip planned there for July this year.
Finally I am also completing an MBA which take up a fair amount of time. I am over halfway through now and feel it has been absolutely worth it.
