The New Year has arrived and many offices are back in the swing after the 2017 Christmas break. For Haines Watts, Christmas is always a busy time of year; Secret Santa, Christmas jumper day competitions, bake off’s and not forgetting the office party are just a few examples of the festive fun in our offices.
Whilst many people look forward to the holiday break, it can be a very difficult time of year for individuals and families who are already managing on extremely tight budgets. Increased winter fuel costs, an unexpected illness or a delay in receiving benefits can be enough to push people into food crisis.
Haines Watts got in touch with the Trussell Trust who run a network of over 400 foodbanks, giving emergency food and support to people in crisis across the UK. There are over thirteen million people who live below the poverty line. In the first half of 2016, more than 500, 000 three day emergency food parcels were distributed to people in crisis – over 188,500 to children.
Haines Watts operates locally throughout the UK with over 60 offices across the country, as well as on a national basis. Whilst we love our Christmas jumper days, by initiating a foodbank campaign we realised the opportunity to not only raise awareness of food poverty, but also support our fantastic local communities.
Many of the local Haines Watts offices were busy collecting donations throughout November ready to be delivered to their local foodbanks in time for Christmas. In addition, there were some very generous donations to the Haines Watts JustGiving page, the total coming to over £4000 which is a fantastic result and all going to the Trussell Trust to support their work. Many offices went the extra mile and gave their time; for example one office offered to help collect at the their local supermarket for their local foodbank whilst another hosted an event where members of the board cooked a meal for everyone in the office to raise funds for the cause.
We are immensely proud of our offices and their teams for doing an amazing job in collecting donations for their local foodbanks before Christmas. This is one of our most successful national campaigns which is due to a huge amount of enthusiasm and support by Haines Watts staff and Haines Watts clients. Thank you for everyone who so generously donated via the Just Giving page and contributed to foodbanks across the country this Christmas.
