Developing successful futures one step at a time

We pride ourselves on being an inclusive place to work. Not all journeys into accountancy are the same and each member of our team has their own story.

Harry’s Story

Harry is with Haines Watts as a Tax Trainee for his placement as part of his University degree.

After leaving school and going to college to do a business course, things didn’t go to plan for Harry, however, he worked out a new path to get to where he wanted to be and successfully started his degree.

Harry enjoys being in the office with his team and feels his work life balance is just right working 8.30-5.00 Mon-Fri, and then having his weekends completely free.

“Don’t panic if things don’t go as you plan them to when you leave school – there is still time, you’re still young and you can always change your path whenever you like”

Imi's Story

Imi went to University, studying her degree through Covid and various lockdowns.

She joined Haines Watts as an Administration Assistant. Alongside her role, Imi is now also starting to spend time in some of the accounts departments learning accounting processes and developing new skills.

“One of my biggest successes to date is graduating during Covid. With the fluctuation of online and in person learning there were times when I felt that graduating was going to be impossible - but I did it!”

Ed’s Story

Ed studied his A Levels at school and then bravely took quite a different path to most of his friends by leaving for Australia where he worked in a school. Because of Covid, Ed returned to the UK.

With A Levels in Maths and Economics, Ed decided that an accountancy path would be a great choice and that’s when he contacted Haines Watts. He is now working towards the next step in his career.

“I’ve had to develop my communication and people skills in my role – I wasn’t so confident in talking to people before, but I have to deal with our clients every day and that has really helped me build my confidence”

Kaitlin’s Story

Kaitlin came to us at Haines Watts straight from school and is an Apprentice Bookkeeper.

She studies for her apprenticeship one day a week from home, and then spends four days a week in our office, supported closely by our Senior Bookkeeper.

Kaitlin thinks the balance of study and work that an apprenticeship gives is perfect if you are unsure about what you want to do next.

“The most challenging part of my apprenticeship so far has been learning all of the new technology and software that I need for the job”

Uzair's Story

Uzair is in his placement year with Haines Watts which is part of his degree. He will return to University once his placement is complete and finish his final year.

He is working as a Tax Trainee, as well as spending some time in other areas of the business, such as the audit department to gain wider experience.

“Securing my placement with Haines Watts is something I’m really proud of. As a compulsory part of my degree I had to make sure I found somewhere I would be happy and gain the necessary experience. This role has definitely taught me how to be extremely focused! ”

Mason's Story

Mason joined Haines Watts as part of his Business Administration Apprenticeship.

After starting University, Mason decided it wasn’t the path he wanted to take and so made the bold move to change his direction and started his apprenticeship.

Having passed his apprenticeship (with distinctions), Mason is now learning new skills, with the support of Managers and Directors in the accounts department as an Accounts Assistant.

“My goals are to keep going and continue to work hard! I don’t want to get ‘comfortable’, I want to always be challenging myself ”
