Investment Business

The HW group consists of various firms in which Haines Watts Limited is a partner, member or shareholder, or firms controlled by such firms. The majority of these firms are not authorised under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000, but are able in certain circumstances to offer a limited range of investment services to clients because they are licensed by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. We can provide these investment services to you, if these are incidental and / or complementary to, or arise out of, the other professional services we have been engaged to provide. For example:

a) we can advise on the tax consequences of making particular investments;
b) we can comment on advice given by an authorised person; and
c) we can give general investment advice, but cannot advise about a specific investment product.

We have however a specialist associated company, HW Financial Services Limited, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000. This company is owned by, and profits and losses accrue to partners, principals, members or shareholders of firms in which Haines Watts Limited is a partner, member or shareholder, or firms controlled by such firms. It is our policy to refer investment business, excluding corporate finance work, to that associate or to other similarly permitted third parties which are also authorised under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000. Any work resulting from such a referral will be the subject of a separate engagement letter from the relevant firm, although the Financial Services Authority may or may not regulate the products or services mentioned in this web site.

For investor protection, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales administers, and the firm contributes to, a compensation scheme for clients who might need to seek redress.
