Stamp prices to rise from April

Stamp prices to rise from April
The cost of first and second-class stamps will rise from 6 April 2010, Royal Mail has announced.

The increase will bring the price of a standard first-class letter up by two pence to 41p, while a second-class letter will also rise by two pence, to 32p.

Meanwhile, prices for ordinary meter and account mail will remain unchanged at 36p and 25p for standard letters weighing up to 100g.

Alex Smith of Royal Mail said, ’Small businesses who depend on Royal Mail’s services to fulfil their customers’ orders and to grow their businesses will be helped by our decision to hold prices for ordinary meter and account mail at today’s levels’.

The price rise was largely expected, although regulator Postcomm had approved an increase of three pence.
