March 2009

31st: End of Corporation Tax financial year.

End of CT61 quarterly period.

Last minute planning for the tax year 2008/09. Make sure you use any capital gains tax and inheritance tax annual exemptions.

Last minute planning for the tax free investments. Make sure you use your ISA allowances.

Filing date for Corporation Tax Return Form CT600 for period ended 31 March 2008.

April 2009

1st: Due date for payment of CT for period ended 30 June 2008

14th: Due date for income tax for the CT61 period to 31 March 2009.

19th: Quarter 4 2008/09 PAYE and CIS remittance due for small employees and contractors, including any balance of 2007/08 PAYE/NI

20th: Interest will begin to accrue on unpaid PAYE/NI for 2008/09 (if not paid electronically).

30th: Normal annual adjustment for VAT partial exemption calculations (monthly returns).

Filing date for Corporation Tax Return Form CT600 for period ended 30 April 2008.

Don't trust your backup!

Having a backup of your critical data is obviously important, but testing that the backup has worked is equally important.

Backups can and do fail, especially where the media is ageing, or is done on media such as CD ROMs or even tapes. Testing your backup should be done regularly, by restoring such data to a temporary folder. If the restore works and the files are accessible, then you have peace of mind that your backup is working.

Backups are important, but testing they work is critical!
