Rodney Style - Managing Partner
Rodney has particular expertise in advising business owners on the business lifecycle, including tax strategies, business planning, and on the development and implementation of exit strategies.
Rodney has been senior partner at Haines Watts in Oxford since 1985. Prior to joining Haines Watts he spent nine years in the City of London with Spicer and Pegler, now part of Deloitte and Touche. He specialised particularly in personal and corporation tax, qualifying as a member of the Institute of Taxation.
Rodney is a non executive director of several companies including a start-up information business and an engineering business. He is also an investor in some of them.
When not horse riding, Rodney enjoys getting involved in many exciting outdoor activities. Previous adventures include Red Sea diving in Egypt, white water rafting down the Zambezi and bungee jumping from the Victoria Falls Bridge.
Simon Garrett - Audit Partner
Simon has been a partner at HW Oxford since the early 1990s. He trained in the City office of a large national firm, now Deloitte & Touche, and was seconded to one of their Australian offices following qualification as a chartered accountant.
On returning to the UK, Simon worked in industry initially, principally as financial accountant in a fast food concern. Since joining Haines Watts in Oxford he specialises in audit-related work and in providing general commercial advice to businesses. Simon also works with clients in the international marketplace.
Simon is a keen tennis player and has represented his club in county leagues. He enjoys travelling, especially to Spain, and is currently studying Spanish.
David Teckoe - Tax Partner
David has been a tax partner at Haines Watts in Oxford since 1993. Prior to this, he was a senior partner in a nine partner Thames Valley practice, which merged with Kidsons in 1987.
He advises owner-managed businesses and other organisations on both corporate and personal taxation matters. His specialist field lies in advising on the complexities of capital taxation and maximising the use of tax relief and allowances for his clients.
David is a member of the Institute of Taxation and has written articles for a number of professional journals and publications.
He is an enthusiastic music fan, particularly Elvis Presley and modern electric blues. He is an accredited lay preacher with the Methodist Church.
He enjoys most forms of sport, particularly Rugby Union and Formula 1 Motor Racing and has undertaken, completed and gained racing driver qualifications on a course at Silverstone.
Charles Whelan - Corporate Finance Partner
Charles joined Haines Watts in 2004 as corporate finance partner, southern region, based in Reading and Southampton. He has 14 years experience in the corporate finance sector, having previously worked for Deloitte in Reading and Southampton, where he led a team of six on several high profile deals. Prior to that, he worked for KPMG and Smith & Williamson in London, and at Fanshawe Lofts in Southampton.
Charles and his team have ambitious plans to build Haines Watts presence in the mid market corporate finance marketplace, providing both lead advisory and transactional services. They offer an independent, entrepreneurial approach with a fresh market perspective, combined with the flexible and personal service of a boutique.
Charles is married with three children, and his interests outside work include skiing and sailing, at which he has represented the UK in several World and European championships. He contributes to an SME think tank, The Genesis Initiative.
Sylvia Davis - VAT Consultant
Sylvia joined Haines Watts in 2001 having previously worked for Ernst & Young and HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC). Her experience includes working on the VAT affairs of blue-chip companies such as Racal and Macmillan Publishers.
Sylvia enjoys working with owner-managed businesses, corporates and other organisations, providing technical advice and practical guidance on a wide variety of VAT issues. Sylvia devises cost-effective strategies to minimise risk and maximise cashflow benefits. She has extensive experience of working on projects involving international as well as EC indirect tax and reporting requirements.
She is an experienced tennis player, and has recently taken up golf.
