Reading into the Future

by Trevor McCleese, Partner on 13 January 2012

Did you get a Kindle for Christmas? 1 in 40 adults did and that was just in the UK. In America the sale of Kindles hit one million a week for December 2011!

It seems that we are changing the way we access books now in the same way that the internet and mobile phones have revolutionized how we access news, films, music and communicating with each other.

So does all this technology increase unemployment and actually add to the worldwide recession? Just before Christmas Clive watched a BBC documentary with Alan Yentob on how Kindles will eventually make books obsolete and create unemployment. Are we destroying the fabric of our lives with Ipads, Kindles, computer games and self service tills! Or should we accept this is how it’s going to be in the future!! Recession! What recession!

Business needs to move forward and find ways to incorporate new technology so it can continue in these tough times.  At Haines Watts we have developed the tax app for Android and iPhones and use Social Media to communicate with the business community, we use modern software and mobile devices to allow instant access at all times to a wide variety of resource and information. As a business, we use technology on a daily basis to ensure consistency and accuracy and to ensure information is accessible at all times.

Whatever new technology is developed it cannot replace meeting and discussing your challenges and ideas with a partner.  Clive and I are of the opinion that the recession is here to stay and along with the technology we rely up on, we must adapt and develop.
