Accountant Vacancy in Thetford? Are you getting the most from your staff?
by Nick Ross, Partner on 15 May 2012
As you can see from the advertisement below we are about to recruit additional staff and wondered what is the best way to do this. We could have used an agency or put an advertisement in the paper but have opted to see if using social media works best for us. We feel confident the right applicants will feel comfortable with this approach.
This then led me to think about how to look after the staff we have and to make sure we get the best for and from them. A well motivated work force is essential to any business and will help it grow and provide the best service possible to all our clients.
We use a talent management programme.
Talent management is the process of identifying and managing the talent in your business. It aids the retention of key staff, motivates by communication and develops hidden potential.
All businesses that employ people will benefit from proper care and development of the potential of the staff. Failure to do this will often lead to a high turnover of staff which is very costly as well as bad for the morale and image of the business.
Though, like most businesses, we rely heavily on machinery, software and IT our main investment is in the right staff to help us run and develop the business. We try to support all our staff with training and personal development programmes providing a structured but individual approach.
Regular individual appraisals( both formal and informal) and a willingness to listen to what the staff say and feel will ensure awareness of personal ambitions and aspirations.. Working with staff to achieve their goals is essential for their personal benefit and that of the company. Career planning enables us to focus upon development, identify key talent and to recruit and promote from within the business.
Because of the good efforts of our existing staff once in a while we are in the fortunate position of needing to bring in extra staff to enhance and expand the work force. So the wheel turns as we add to our work force and aim to help the new recruits develop in their turn.
