What’s it like working for Haines Watts?

Here’s just a few thoughts from some of our partners and staff on what it’s like to work in Haines Watts.

Gary Heywood, Partner

I joined Haines Watts as a partner in 2004, having spent several years working in the ‘Big 4’ environment. A key reason for me leaving the ‘Big 4’ was my inability to advise clients without having to refer every technical issue to a risk team at the centre.  In addition, more and more edicts on how to manage the local practice kept emanating from the Board in London.

At Haines Watts decision making is local.  However, consultation is always available and willingly offered if required across the group, with many groups of offices collaborating closely across a range of areas. I can honestly say that all the specialists I have brought in from the group, from financial services to VAT and corporate finance have all been motivated by the same guiding principles as me, namely wanting to find the right solutions for my client.  It’s a great feeling to obtain genuine thanks from the entrepreneur.  He or she might even pay the bill!

Peter Hale, Senior Audit Manager

Having previously worked for a big five firm, Andersen, I joined Haines Watts looking for new opportunities. Since I have been here these have been many and varied and each day brings new challenges. Although the work is demanding the directors have been fully supportive in my efforts and have helped to develop my career.

While excellent client service is of paramount importance, Haines Watts places great importance in its people. It’s a very open culture with everyone on a first name basis and I enjoy the flexible environment in which we work. I feel like I have been here for much longer then I have, which is a good sign, I think.

Nisha Rai, Graduate

I joined Haines Watts in September 2008 as a graduate Audit Junior. I have really enjoyed my time working in audit, as every week has been  different bringing new challenges and experiences. I cannot believe how quickly I was brought up to speed on preparing files and working on clients. I have quickly developed my people skills as well as my technical ability.

The advantage of working for a medium sized firm is that my experience will not just be limited to audit, I have the opportunity to work within tax and also preparing financial statements.

Haines Watts are committed to your development and offer an excellent study package. I started studying towards the ACA qualification and everyone has been very supportive and understanding.

Besides work there are always organised staff night outs which have been fun to go on. Everyone is very friendly and a pleasure to work with.
